about
The music for this tune has not been recorded yet, a Tom Waits'y kind of thing.. A song about getting older..the hypothesis is that as we age, around 50, we begin to become translucent, opaque and eventually invisible to the youth-oriented culture around us.. Very appropriate, considering how closer this aging population is to death.. Becoming "cultural ghosts" long before our actual deaths.. How many of you have passed by elderly folks in the market with no acknowledgment of their existence whatsoever? Amazing how American culture has so little value for it's older citizens...We were all young once.. Why would "youth" not seek the advice & wordly knowledge/experiences of those that had come before them? Invisible...sadly invisible...Chinese culture will destroy us on this one...
These lyrics are just the beginning of an idea for a song, but the "idea" of it, as a commentary on Western values and culture, needs to be explored by all of us..I challenge an songwriter to pick up where I left off, or start all over, but to explore the "Invisibility" & of our aging population.
lyrics
INVISIBLE
Did you see the apparitions at the mall today?
Around the age of 50, we begin to fade away.
A chronic affliction of the elderly,
This exponentially increasing opacity.
The young & rich & sexy rule.
That butterfly ‘tat is the essence of cool.
Idol worship, a new American dream.
Dylan & Young, were never heard of again.
It’s strangely ok, time to slip away..
Pop culture bores me, your children ignore me.
Banishing the vanishing, I’ll stay out of your way.
Relishing the thought of hiding right under your nose,
Can’t be seen or be caught, invisible don’t need any clothes.
Don’t matter how I look, cause they look right thru me..
Translucent transformation, a ghost at 80..
I can step behind the bar & make my own drink.
I can say whatever I want, cause they don’t care what I think.
Scream as loud as we can, only ghostly voices.
Do whatever we please, we’ve got impunity’s choices.
Play with the dead, & talk real dirty,
Just can't stay awake past 10 or 10 thirty.
There are worse things we could be,
Than a spirit that the world can’t see.
At first glance it might seem sad,
But invisible ain’t so bad..
